The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Android Operating Systems

Android is a free, open-source mobile operating system, based on a modified version of the Linux operating system and various other open-source software, designed mainly for touch screen mobile phones like tablets and smartphones. The name Android was coined by the company Samsung. Android is considered as the operating system for touch-screen mobile phones because of its multi-touch support and the availability of widgets. There are several other mobile operating systems in the market including Apple’s iPhone and Windows Mobile, and there are several users complaining about the poor control, speed and accuracy of Android.

Android has received huge popularity in a short period of time and it has replaced all the popular operating systems like Windows, Symbian and Blackberry in the mobile phone market. Android is the most downloaded free software in the world according to Google. Android is the latest release of the operating system Linux, which is maintained and developed by the Linx project. There are several other companies that develop different versions of Android like Samsung, Sony, H LG, AT&T, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and many more.

The biggest advantage of Android is that it is the first mobile operating system which provides an out of the box solution for any user facing problems like “I don’t see the application”. This feature is unique in its class. Many other operating systems have limited features and apps and users are left in the lurch of using the OS which they feel is their only choice for the device. In Android, one needs to take the effort to find and install the appropriate apps and programs.

One of the biggest disadvantages of Android is that it doesn’t support some of the most popular widgets like Gmail, Yahoo, Chrome, Picasa and so on. According to Google, this limitation is due to the fact that these popular apps were written as mobile operating systems independent of Android and they need to be written to match the specific architecture of android. In case of a Gmail account for example, it is impossible to access if you have an iPhone or Blackberry. This limitation however, can be overcome by downloading app from the Google Play Store. In fact, there are many more such apps that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Another disadvantage of Android is that it has no Flash support which is not available with any other OS. Although flash was introduced with the ios but still not all phones support it. Android apps can use the Flash plug-in but this has a limitation of being able to use the Flash movies. So this makes Android less suitable for use in the enterprise where lots of mobile office applications would be used.

Overall, android operating systems do have a lot to offer for all android devices ranging from smartphones to tablets and smart TVs. But users should be careful in opting for the right OS. A better option would be to download a free mobile app that is compatible with your device. It would make life a lot easier and also ensure security for your android devices.
