Advantages and Disadvantages of Internet
Internet, an evolving system architecture which has tremendously revolutionized the processes and communications of commerce and communication by enabling internet connections for different computer networks across the globe. In some cases referred to as an intranet, the Internet evolved in the United States initially but did not reach the public eye until the late 1990s. Today, many people from all over the world can be found connected to the World Wide Web through their computers. Some of these people are looking for information of topics they are interested in while others are doing what they do best, browsing the Internet for information or entertainment.
The Internet can be defined as being the web -the collection of computers with similar interests and capabilities which exchange data at regular intervals, known as time-switching. While this technology was originally developed and controlled by large companies and governments, it was soon used and embraced by individuals and organizations interested in making their own mark on the Internet. There are several types of Internet services, including file sharing, chat rooms, instant messaging, Internet conferencing and other activities. File transfer protocol or FTP is a protocol which allows two or more computers to exchange data by creating a file, commonly a website, at an agreed upon destination. This type of Internet service is known as packet networking.
Packet switching is also used to provide Internet access to rural or small local area users, where dial up connections or other connections may be too slow or interfering with Internet use. It works by creating a path between two points on the network by relaying packets of data. These packets include information such as email attachments, web pages and other types of media such as sound files and video clips. On the receiving end, all the information is converted into a form that can be understood by the receiver and interpreted. This is the basic principle of how Internet communication happens.
One of the major benefits of using this type of technology is the speed of Internet connection. With this method, users do not have to wait for long periods for the downloading of data. Instead, all the information that the user downloads are immediately available to the Internet users. This is because during the download process, the system tracks every step that the user takes such as page loading, file download and Internet browsing activities. All this information is then sent to the remote computer through the Internet so that all the users can view the information instantly.
This type of Internet service is also useful for businesses and homes. With this type of Internet connection, businesses can now save time and money since online transactions are completed in a very short period of time. Aside from this, Internet users are also able to save money since there is no need for expensive Internet lines. This is especially true in cases when businesses and homes need to share Internet connections. For instance, a home or an office that does not have Internet access can still perform day to day tasks such as emailing, uploading photos and videos or even chatting with other people if Internet availability is possible.
Although this technology has many advantages, it also has some disadvantages. One of these is security. There are a lot of malicious Internet users who are interested in stealing the identity of unsuspecting users. This is one of the reasons why security measures have been set in place. However, as these security measures are being implemented, more Internet users are choosing this new technology.
